Locating quality, affordable dental care can be difficult – especially for veterans. Many do not qualify for dental benefits through the VA, and lack of transportation and insurance coverage can be barriers for others.
During this past June and July, some area veterans were able to get the dental care they needed through a sponsored grant from the Littleton Elks Lodge 1831. Through this grant and a partnership with Ammonoosuc Community Health Services’ Dental & Oral Health Center, veterans received a comprehensive dental screening which included an exam and cleaning. Twelve veterans were seen in all, and many said they had gone without dental services for some time.
Dentist Dr. Hiren Korat, who also currently serves in the U.S. Army Reserves, was thrilled to be able to aid his fellow veterans. One of which said, “I have never had such a comprehensive exam!”. Dr. Korat and ACHS Hygienist Katie Latulip worked together to provide the veteran’s dental services.
The hope is to implement the program again soon. For more information on the program please contact Dave Victor of the Littleton NH Elks Lodge at 603-444-5744.
