ACHS Dental & Oral Health receives $5,000 grant for Veteran’s Dental Care!
Ammonoosuc Community Health Services, Inc. is pleased to be the recipient of a $5,000 grant from the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation. The funds are earmarked for ACHS’ new Veterans Dental Program. A collaboration with Dartmouth Research Coop NIH and the Littleton Elks Lodge 1831, the program brings affordable dental care to area veterans. Patients who qualify, receive a comprehensive oral evaluation, dental x-rays and preventive treatments FREE of charge at ACHS dental clinic in Littleton, NH. Two Veteran’s clinics
have been held to date, the first in June of 2018. Nearly 30 local veterans have participated so far and many more are waiting in the queue. “This was the most thorough examine I have ever had”, said one Navy vet. “It felt great to finally be able to get my teeth taken care of”. Dental care is not covered by Medicaid or Medicare and many veterans do not qualify for dental benefits through the VA. Some of those without dental insurance have not seen the dentist in years.
“These folks served our nation,” said Teresa Brooks, ACHS’ COO. “They deserve the best care for ALL of their health needs, including dental.” The idea of t
he dental clinic for veterans came about at the suggestion of the Littleton Elks Lodge and NH Representative Linda Massimilla. The Littleton Elks Lodge and a Dartmouth Research Coop NIH grant funded the initial program.
Kathleen Walker, Treasurer of the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation stated, “Northeast Delta Dental is proud to support the Veterans dental program at Ammonoosuc Community Health. Our Chief Dental Officer, Dr. Michel Couret, played a key role in bringing this program to our attention. As a dentist and a Veteran he knows good oral health is a critical component of overall health and that partnering with organizations like ACHS to help improve the dental health of our Veterans is closely aligned with our mission.”
In addition to partnering in the Veterans Dental Program, Ammonoosuc Community Health Services, also provides integrated health care – primary, dental, behavioral health and more – to nearly 11,000 North Country residents at their six sites.
